Just managed to solve it by accessing the page in recovery mode and deleting the section where I had added the gallery (even though in recovery mode the section looked empty). Should I stay away from the gallery mode for now? Does it need updating?
As I have already pointed out the issue happened when I tried to add the overlay - the galley you tested doesn't seem to feature those. I simply gave up on adding the overlay to the gallery, as I am already fighting with other bugs this theme has.
