I was wondering if we could add a gallery type that mimics the function of the lightbox and also has the infinite loop / autoplay option that the carousel has.

Unfortunately, we can't customize the Gallery widget of Neuron as it would require extra work hours and we don't support that, but we can try to add some code together that will make it work.
So, can you please give us a brief explanation of what are you really trying to achieve with the lightbox feature?
You can also search for a plugin that customizes the Lightbox the way you want.
