    Dear NeuronThemes,

    Thanks for creating this great theme. I’m having a couple of issues though:

    • Instead of displaying thumbnails in my portfolio gallery (the gallery in a portfolio item), the theme somehow uses full scale images. In the Customizer the thumbnail resizer is ‘on’ and set to image-size-4. What am I overlooking?
    • I have added alt tags to my images, how can I make use of them in my portfolio gallery?
    • How can I change the layout of a portfolio item to wide instead of boxed?

    My site is still under construction, so unfortunately I cannot give you a link.

    Your help is very much appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Eva

    Hi Eva,

    1) Unfortunately these options in the Portfolio > Thumbnail does not affect the portfolio item, I can make a file ready(the gallery template) the 1) and the 2) question will be solved with that one.

    Change it on the centaurus > templates > portfolio-item > gallery.php. I would suggest you to use the child theme, because incase any update nothing will lose.

    3) Please add the following style in Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS.

    @media (min-width: 1367px) {
        .single-portfolio .container {
            max-width: 1300px;
        }
    }

    Feel free to ask for anything you need.

    Kind Regards

    Thanks. Unfortunately this solution doesn’t work. I have activated the child theme and added the new gallery.php, but the gallery still uses the full scale images instead of thumbnails.

    The additional CSS also does not make any difference; my portfolio-item is still boxed.

    I have to say, I am disappointed that these aren’t standard features of the theme. If you build a website with a ‘wide’ setting on all pages and then have the portfolio items ‘boxed’, it looks rather dodgy (especially the shifting logo if you go from one page to the other). And I would assume that the page or item with the most images (i.e. the portfolio item) is optimized for speed.

    Hope you can provide a solution.

    Hey Eva,

    1) Can you please let me know the location that you have inserted the gallery, also providing me with an URL, would be good, so I can check if that is not working on the front-end.

    2) Well, we created two types of portfolio items, one that you can freely built with Elementor(we have included some in the demo importer) and the other ones that you can create through settings, so if you want more flexibility you can go with Elementor.

    Kind Regards

    1) I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'location'. I have uploaded the gallery.php file (the one you sent) via ftp to the centaurus-child folder. First I put it in the root, now I have copied the folder structure so it is in centaurus-child/templates/portfolio-item. Makes no difference, the gallery is still not using thumbnails.

    If you mean location of the gallery in my portfolio item: I have copied 'Side Portfolio v6' of the demo content and added my own text and images.

    The URL is https://www.scheepstimmerwerk.nl/wordpress/portfolio/koekoek/ but that is probably of no use to you as the site is in under construction mode.

    2) If I wanted to build a site from scratch using Elementor, I wouldn't have bought a theme ...

    This process is becoming more and more frustrating. I really do not get why these very elementary features are not included in the theme. No one wants a gallery that takes ages to load.

    Hi,

    I am sorry for your frustration, I didn't mean to have the Elementor to build all your website, we have made 4 portfolio items that are created with Elementor, so you can start building your portfolio items.

    Can you please provide me with your wp-admin, I will have a quick look and check why the thumbnail resizers are not working, I have tested them locally, everything worked fine.

    Make sure to tick private when you reply with the password.

    Feel free to ask for anything you need.

    Hi Eva,

    As I'm checking the thumbnails seems to be working alright, maybe you have checked inside them while they're opened on the lightbox.

    http://prntscr.com/ob1ixn

    The thumbnails loaded correctly and fast enough.

    You can also install this amazing plugin and start duplicating that post, so you don't have to recreate it all the time.

    Thanks for checking.

    As your screenshot shows the image is 1024px, while the container is 258px (that is, on my screen). So the image is unnecessary large, as confirmed by the Smush 'wrong image size detection'.

    With a lot of images in the gallery this does result in a page that takes a long time to load.

    I already installed a duplicate page/post plugin, thanks.

    I am really grateful for the support, but as yet my issues remain unresolved. For my website it is important to have fast loading of the portfolio gallery and to have the same (i.e. wide) layout throughout all pages.

    Hi,

    Centaurus uses the thumbnail image sizes, check under that, there are some other images that are in different width and height, they will be used, depend on the resolution.

    How does WordPress Process Images?

    Once you upload an image to your media library, WordPress will automatically generate additional images with 3 default image sizes and store them separately. Therefore, you will see 4 image options when you are uploading an image. These are the thumbnail, medium, large and full-size options. The first three options are called default WordPress images sizes, while the full-size option is the original image size that you upload.

    WordPress creates these options because using different locations for placing images will require different image resolution. For example, the image resolution in the thumbnail may be different than the image resolution used in the slider. Therefore, you don’t need to edit and resize your images manually if you want to use the same images in different places with different resolutions. Only one image is needed and WordPress will do the rest.

    Feel free to ask for anything you need.

    Kind Regards

    I keep asking for a solution and you keep giving me nonsolutions. A standard text on thumbnails is not helping me one bit if the theme fails to use them correctly.

    Since this theme has some major flaws and you are unwilling or unable to fix them, I am opting for a refund.

    Hi Eva,

    I am sorry for the misunderstanding, I'm really trying to help you solve this issue.

    We have set the thumbnails as each other theme does it, but if you have uploaded a 1000x1000 image, the full image will be still downloaded, that's when optimization comes in hand, the image sizes or thumbnails doesn't matter on this case. I don't know how we're supposed to set it different, I'm sorry but we don't know, we're using the thumbnail sizes that are created via WordPress.

    If you test the website online in. http://tools.pingdom.com

    It will give you helpful solutions to it.

    Also, if you're not pleased with the theme we get it, we usually don't accept the refunds, but we will this time.

    Kind Regards

    Hi,

    Hope you are willing to give it one more try. I would hate to switch to another theme, it will take hours to build my site again.

    And it’s not just for me, but for everyone that bought Centaurus.

    Again, the gallery in this theme uses full-size images as thumbnails, resulting in a page that takes a long time to load. In my case, it takes 34 seconds: https://prnt.sc/ofarps. Visitors don’t like that and neither does Google.

    A gallery should function like this: loading thumbnails first and only loading the full-size image upon clicking.

    I bought a theme because I am not a developer and therefore wanted a plug and play theme.

    So I hope that you as a developer can make this work - it is a basic feature of a Wordpress gallery.

    Regards,

    Eva

    Hi Eva,

    I just saw that that you left a one star review, I just want to claim some things below.

    I really want to help you with the image sizes, but sincerely that's their purpose how they work, I really don't know or I am not able to find any other way how to do it.

    The full image sizes are loaded in the background but in the front only the right one is displayed, so that's why you need an image compression, for example for a place that is only 300x300 you don't need a 1000x1000 image, because that image is going to scale in 3-4 images and stay ready for all the devices in background.

    The example that only the correct image is displayed:
    - http://prntscr.com/ofckbs <- See the source, I will remove the full source and the image will be still displayed.
    - http://prntscr.com/ofcmj8

    This is also how the Elementor Image Sizes works. http://prntscr.com/ofcjeo - Same as we're using them.

    I am sorry again for your experience with Centarus and we're really trying to help you.

    I can suggest you the following plugin, it can resize & compress images.
    - https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/

    If you decided not to stay with Centaurus, please remove the rating, we'll accept the refund with pleasure.

    Thanks for replying. You keep beating around the bush. Loaded in background or foreground, the fact is that the images are used in such a way that the page load time is unnecessary and unacceptably long.

    This is going nowhere, so I'm going to buy another theme and delete this one.

    Please refund the $59 on my PayPal account. I am willing to change the review in your favour, but only after receiving the refund.
