Portfolio item vs project and broken links

Hello, I've gone in and created portfolio items for all the pieces in my portfolio I wish to display. These show up great in the portfolio grid section I've added to the home page.

I would like a separate page, "Portfolio" (I initially tried "My Work"), that duplicates the portfolio grid and remains sortable based on the portfolio categories. For some reason, I can't seem to get this to work.

I have two main issues I see popping up:

    1) For some reason, there is a conflict with the URL when I try to click any of the portfolio items from the portfolio grid on the homepage. "website.com/portfolio/project-name" turns up a 404 error; I can see the item pages in preview, but I can't click to them from the grid.

    2) When I try to create a new page to house a duplicate portfolio grid, "Portfolio" (to match that URL, "website.com/portfolio"), nothing is showing up. I created a test portfolio project that shows up, but I cannot get the elementor to work with the portfolio grid as I want things to be displayed. I like the layout of the portfolio items, not the portfolio projects.

What I tried doing to fix it:

    A) I tried creating a new page with a different title, "My Work," so the URL would be different and wouldn't conflict with "Portfolio"... this didn't resolve the issue.

    B) I deleted the "My Work" page and created a "Portfolio" page with "website.com/portfolio" as the URL to see if that would help the portfolio items on the homepage to show up when clicked, but this still is creating a 404. The "Portfolio" page shows a test project but none of the items.

    What I need help with:

    >>>How can I fix the broken URLs for all of my portfolio items without having to recreate them all? It doesn't seem to be something I can change?

    >>>How can I create a separate "Portfolio" or "My Work" page that connects to the portfolio grid of items that are already created?

    >>>Can I just have portfolio items without creating any portfolio projects?

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi Cass,

Please click save changes on the Settings > Permalinks, there can be a permalink issue. This can lead to all the issues that are happening with the URLs.

To divide them in different pages, I will explain it below how the portfolio items works.

The images that are displayed on the portfolio element are portfolio items, they are linked through categories to the portfolio element. The images that are displayed for the portfolio item are placed on featured image of each portfolio item.

The following example shows a posts element in which are attached 'Apps', 'Development' and 'Editing' categories, which means all the portfolio items that have assigned one of these categories will be directly displayed on that page.

One more thing is the Metro Layout Type in which the posts are manually added via query field, the reason why they are manually added there is because of their flexibility for columns.

Feel free to ask for anything you need.

Hmm... This is helpful for looking at what shows up in the portfolio grid, but not necessarily for how the items in the grid link out when clicked (links are all 404).

I've tried putting together a few screen shots to show the issue I'm having: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fyq12h876zq6nis/permalink%20issue.pdf?dl=0

Can you help me figure out why my portfolio items, when clicked from the portfolio grid, are not showing up? Thank you so much for your fast response, I really appreciate the help!

[[[EDIT: I added a few screen shots showing the issues I've had troubleshooting the URL naming for my portfolio page, "website.com/portfolio" vs. "website.com/my-work" as indicated in the original ticket. Maybe this has something to do with it? https://www.dropbox.com/s/3fl6pp6a657bsk1/page%20URL%20issue.pdf?dl=0 ]]]

    Hi,

That's the prefix of the portfolios, you don't have to change it on the slug. So, go to Appearance > Customize > Portfolio > Functionality and change in the prefix field.

Do not forget to click save changes on Settings > Permalinks.
